The Psychehedron is a compelling VR-based, narrative experience depicting visionary states of consciousness experienced by the artist Matthias Plunkett during the Autumn of 1994, after he embarked on a shamanic vision quest using Psilocybe Semilanceata mushrooms. This episode had such a profoundly positive, life-altering effect, Matthias has been haunted by the memories of that night for the twenty-eight years which have followed.

“I have never forgotten what I saw on that night in the Mendips and I’ve spent the subsequent decades waiting for the right moment to tell my story in the manner in which I feel it deserves. With the emergence of new technologies such as affordable, consumer VR, and the tools available to create immersive artworks, I felt that now would be the perfect time to tell the story of what happened during that fateful evening”

The Psychehedron is intended to be part one of a series of VR experiences in which Matthias intends to present his reflections on The Good, The Bad and The Alien, based upon some of his previous shamanic explorations. He hopes that this contribution to the emerging community of technologically proficient psychedelic artists, as well as the wider community of researchers focussed on psychedelics and consciousness, will generate interest and discussion.

While recreated visionary states lack the qualitative psychological essence of the  explorer’s experience, VR offers its users an unrivalled opportunity to safely witness and comprehend the inner paths that psychonauts dare to tread.
